For the Strength of Youth:
Make Inspired Choices

President Jodi McGinn
Stake Primary President

As we are making choices that are centered on Christ, we will grow spiritually. We will be able to have the Holy Ghost with us to guide us and help us continue to make celestial choices.

According to studies, the average person makes 35,000 decisions a day. That is a LOT of choices.

We have been taught by President Nelson to “think celestial”. President Nelson said “I encourage you to begin with the end in mind. This means making the celestial kingdom your eternal goal and then carefully considering where each of your decisions while here on earth will place you in the next world.”

One of the greatest gifts our Heavenly Father has given us is the gift of free agency. He allows us and trusts us to make choices for ourselves. We need to be making sure that we are focusing our choices on things that will bring us closer to Christ.

In Helaman 5:12 it says “And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”

As we are making choices that are centered on Christ, we will grow spiritually. We will be able to have the Holy Ghost with us to guide us and help us continue to make celestial choices. We will be able to cling to the Iron Rod and stay true to the things we know are right.

President Dallin H. Oaks has said, “We have to forego some good things in order to choose others that are better or best because they develop faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and strengthen our families.”

By prioritizing the best things in life, such as attending the temple, serving others, taking the sacrament, and making and keeping sacred covenants, we will be able to draw closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We will be strengthened as we face trials and temptations. We will be able to lift and lead others along the covenant path.
